John Williams was appointed a Hamilton County Assistant Prosecutor in 1993 by Joseph T. Deters. His first post was in the Juvenile Court Division. During his ten year career as a prosecutor, Williams gained extensive trial experience in each of the criminal trial courts in Hamilton County. He has prosecuted thousand of cases including hundreds involving violent offenders. He was chosen to supervise fellow attorneys while in the Juvenile and Municipal Divisions and was eventually named Chief Prosecutor of the Grand Jury Division. As the Chief of Grand Jury, Williams directed the felony review and indictment process for approximately 10,000 cases a year.
Since 1999, John Williams has gained valuable judicial experience as a magistrate in Mayor's Courts throughout Hamilton County. He has presided over thousands of traffic and misdemeanor criminal cases. In January 2004, John Williams was named Director of the Hamilton County Board of Elections. While at the Board, he supervised nineteen elections, including two of the largest Presidential Elections in history as well as the largest write-in race in County history. He successfully implemented the new technologically advanced voting machines, the first change in voting systems in Hamilton County in thirty-two years. Finally, he fought for voters' rights as a key witness in the 'Check Box' absentee voter case which led to the unanimous bi-partisan decision by the Supreme Court of Ohio reversing the Secretary of State's decision to reject voters' absentee applications in the 2008 Presidential Election. Most recently, John Williams was selected by Clerk of Courts Patricia Clancy to be the Administrator of the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts. As Administrator, Williams is responsible for strategic planning and management of a 215 employee, 14 million dollar organization. Working with other stakeholders to create efficiencies, John Williams was able to save taxpayers over one million dollars in 2009. He is currently working to implement a plan to recover millions in unpaid court fines and costs. John Williams is a graduate of St. Xavier High School, Xavier University and Thomas Cooley Law School. Williams has been married to his wife, Sarah, for 13 years. They are the proud parents of three young sons. |
